A2G3: Concept Update

Despite the hiccoughs we have encountered throughout the first few weeks in establishing a storyline which we all could agree on and get behind, the group has finally decided on a concept for a music video that we think fits the tone of the song perfectly.

Isaac and Alex had been thinking a lot about the tone and mood of the song, trying to create a theme or concept which fits the song but incorporates the group's individual preferences and ideas. Until now, one of the main problems the group had was differing opinions on what the video should contain. Alex had been suggesting a narrative piece about dissatisfaction with ones life, and Isaac wanting to create a more conceptual video which he felt was more appropriate of this particular song. However, our disputes were settled when Alex had something of an epiphany when he realised that the songs tone (and to an extent certain lyrics) matched effectively with the idea that a person was suffering from PTSD.
By using the theme of a someone suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) we have made a concept which could be carried out in a number of ways, and much to the groups relief, can incorporate both narrative and conceptual ideas.
Metaphors and symbology will need to be used extensively to effectively convey the horror of war this man is struggling to overcome. Explicit props, most weaponry use would be distasteful. However, pro-filmic effects would still be viable for The locations needed are also very variable, as it could be shot in a home, a garden or a range of other places we have available to us.
The biggest challenges we are likely to face are:
  • Actors: We may need multiple extras. These actors could be, depending on how the narrative evolves:
    • For example, if we were to incorporate children into the music video, Alex has several siblings ranging from the ages of 6 to 15 - one of whom has been involved in previous music video work, shown below:

  • Costume: If we were to do a concept involving an ex-army man, we will have to find an affordable yet high quality outfit which fits the actor, as it is key in establishing the fact that he was in the army and has been affected by his experiences, which would be hard to imply successfully in the 2:30 we have to set up and finish our story.
  • Props: We will have to attempt to avoid using weapons as they can often be clunky, cheesy, unrealistic or unsavoury. This means we would have to get creative in how we film certain parts of the music video, because the nightmare scene, for example, is meant to be horrific.
  • Locations: We need locations which fit the story and have certain basic necessities such as a power supply, but we can't use the apartment from Overseer, our AS Level production. This means using either Georgia's, Alex's or a friends house.
    • One of the possible locations would be Alex's walled garden.
