A2G3: Lonely Boy Planning, Production and Post-production

Task

The original premise for making the group music video was for the media studies students, in groups, to create a sequence of around 48 seconds each The Black Keys' song, Lonely Boy (2011) - video below:

Pre-production

  • We were given the first 48 seconds of the song, which meant planning the introductory segment of the song itself.
  • In order to achieve the above, Alex agreed to take his Canon 550D camera with him, so that the shots would be in high definition.
  • We drew up a few sketches on a storyboard as to how we would achieve

Production

  • To keep the audience interested, we agreed that we would have different locations for each of the band members.
  • Due to technical implications during production, we lost the first and original footage. With only a few hours to film, we darted around the school and shot the scenes on a whim. Because of this, some of the shots were out of focus.

Post-production

  • For editing, we dragged different clips onto the timeline by the cursor. To adjust the positioning of the clip on the timeline we dragged the clips with the cursor to the left or to the right.
  • To cut on the beat we listened to the track whilst watching the clips back to back. We then separated the clips out by dragging them apart on the timeline with the cursor. To use the cutting tool we dragged the timeline bar across to the desired cutting place & then clicked the ‘scissor’ cutting tool. When the clip is split we then clicked the undesired part of the clip & then pressed delete. Afterwards, we dragged the clips next to each other again, pressed play with the music & then checked if the clip editing & order worked.
  • To fit more of a variety of visuals in we shortened each clip further through cutting; all the clips could fit in the allocated time that we had.
