GP: Six Inspirational Frames

Six Inspirational Frames

Chris Brown feat. Usher & Rick Ross - New Flame (2014)

The strength of the colour of the fire is so vibrant compared to the black and the costumes; this emphasises the fire & it's connotation. The beginning of our narrative is dark; involves dark imagery which could involve fire as it is associated with anger & dark thoughts.

I See MONSTAS - Circles (2014)

The mise-en-scène with the extremely crumpled up-face & saddened eyes non-verbal language connotes how desperately upset the actor is. The lighting also associates him with being the protagonist rather than the antagonist & the close-up shot means the audience identifies with the character more which creates a more empathetic feeling. Our narrative is to do with a little boy wanting to escape reality and this shot would suitably represent the little boy's feeling of upset due to his family upsetting him. This particular inspirational shot was shot at the calm bit in the instrumental; we could replicate this and before the high-intensity-instrumental ending we could have a similar shot or use a shot like this in the ending of the song & cut to his imagination then back to him in despair multiple times on the beat.

Joel Compass - Run (2013)

This particular long shot follows on from the 'New Flame' shot with the fire as it is also dark & this particular clip involves a handicam track towards the singer (which is very effective). In terms of rule of thirds, the singer is placed in the centre of the long-shot; the audience know he is the protagonist and the main character. The white lighting connotes a darker mood amongst the dark compared to bright colours; this would be associated with our 'darker' parts of the narrative.

Sam Smith - Not The Only One (2014)

This establishing shot could also be our establishing shot as it makes the house look lovely & heavenly with the lighting. The handicam in this clip also is effective and could suggest that everything is not perfect whilst the camera tracks towards the house (this track towards the house means that the audience associate the following shots with this house). This relates to our narrative as it is set in a house; the audience will know the following shots for the narrative are set in our chosen house, & the juxtaposition of the mood outside of the house & inside the house will highlight the dark mood that the child is experiencing in his family life.

The Maine - Misery (2013)

This shot connotes mystery & darkness which can be associated with our narrative due to the dark mood. The shade on this actor's face & the dark colours makes him less identifiable with the audience; could be perceived as the antagonist (the antagonists of our narrative could be shown in a similar shot). The rule of thirds positions him to the right which also makes the audience not associate him with being the main character compared to the rest of the shots in this video (the singer is central mostly). The actor's non-verbal language connotes upset, anger or depression; this shot could also be used to reflect the mood of the little boy in our narrative & could be in juxtaposition.

Skrillex - Summit (feat. Ellie Goulding) (2013)

Blurry lights in imagination sequence. The out-of-focus effect connotes disorientation or in the boy's case, separation from reality. The colours in the lights are vibrant and bright & his imagination takes him to a happier place; bright, cheery colours would be associated with this.Following with the toy theme as well, the bright colours fit well.
